Please help...........?

I just bought a component system from Sony which is quite powerful. (MHC-GN999DS to be absolutely precise)

I plugged in my electric guitar via the mic input (through my distortion pedal of course) and i hear this extremely loud static kind of noise which stops when i bring my fingers close to the strings. After i play a note, and after it rings out, the noise gets even louder. Clean tones are very clear, but distorted and wah wah tones cause the noise. But when i connect my distortion pedal to a pair of headphones, there's absolutely NO static. Does this have something to do with the quality of the wires that I use to connect my guitar to my pedal and/or the wire that i use to connect my pedal to the system? Thanks......... any help would be appreciated.

  1. The mic input is intended for a microphone input not the output from an electric guitar.

Your distortion pedal may provide an innappropriate voltage range.

Check the input specs for the mic input and also check the output voltage specs of your distortion pedal. If they don't match, you can't use them together.
