Question

If a car is impounded due to contraband and the son was driving it but the car is registed in his fathers name...

Will the cop authorize the release of the car back to the son after the bond is paid?

If not how can he get the cop to do so? Hire a lawyer? - The objective is to avoid involving the father.

If the car is evidence of a crime, it may be held as evidence, but there is federal case called "Krimstock v. Kelly" that limits the forefeiture of seized cars.

Car will be released only to the owner of the vehicle, or the repot/bank officals.

The car is only suppose to be released to the owner.  If your name is not on the title then forget it.

Dont avoid involving the father...legally it's his car and he will probably have to sign papers for it's release. Also, dont try to cover up for the son because that tell's him it's okay to do wrong and that you will take care of everything for him. If he's old enough to drive he's old enough to be responsible. Sorry, might hurt your feelings, but true

The car has to be released to the owner...so no hope of not involving the father.  If the son had contraband in the car, it probably is a good idea to inform the father.

Only the registered owner can retrieve the car. And the police will only release it after a full investigation, and it is no longer needed for evidence.

I had a car impounded that my son-in-law had left at a house where a shooting occurred, and it took about a week for them to release it. I had to pay a $50 impound fee and daily storage rates.

drug laws are such that they can probably seize the car.

best solution is to decriminalize drugs.. because the sad fact is the laws do more damage to society than the drugs ever could.

i imagine the cops could give the car back.. if they wanted to.. if the father was not involved.. if the son cooperated and cleared the father..

but i imagine too.. that if the cops want.. they can keep the car

america is more of a police state than most people realize.  2% of our population in prison.. half of those for drug crimes.

only war more damaging expensive and stupid and worthless than iraq .. is probably the drug war.
