i know it is long, if you want to you can do part, i will greatly appreciate anyone who helps, as this is my first paper of the year in a hard class
Love poem by Linda Pastan was a metaphor about a love that must be saved. The need to immediately write a love poem expressed her desire to immediately save the relationship. Details about the relationship are expressed in the next line with our creek, “our†signifies that it has been a long relationship that they built together, however this relationship is not steady as expressed by “its dangerous banksâ€Â. When the poem says that every dry leaf and branch is taken away the author is showing his sorrow related to the corruption of all the good. She states earlier in the poem that the creek was carrying runoff earlier; this comes into play later when the author mentions that the creek, or their love, is swollen with runoff. I believe that this runoff is the hardships experienced by a couple once the thrill is gone. In the final moments of this poem it expresses a need to grab each other, before the runoff soaks their shoes; this expresses the need to rekindle the fire before the doldrums of a stale love set hold in their foundations.
One interesting aspect of this poem is its punctuation; the poem lacks any punctuation for a couple of purposes. The first is to allow the poem to match the flow of a creek. However the more important reason the poem lacks punctuation is to express the urgency in the situation. There is no time to pause in between lines just like how they must grab each other and save the relationship before it is swept away.
Love poem expresses an overwhelmed feel. The strengthened creek fed by the runoff of spring provides with adequate feeling of helplessness. The feeling that nature has created a problem and it is too late to fix it. This problem nature has created is sweeping away everything dry, there is no hope at saving the good as it just takes it away. Finally the inability to not react is expressed in the final sentences, that express’s the need for action against this overwhelming force.
the poem is
Love Poem
I want to write you
a love poem as headlong
as our creek
after thaw
when we stand
on its dangerous
banks and watch it carry
with it every twig
every dry leaf and branch
in its path
every scruple
when we see it
so swollen
with runoff
that even as we watch
we must grab
each other
and step back
we must grab each
other or
get our shoes
soaked we must
grab each other

thank you to anyone who helps out
