I went to start.accessories.entertainment.volume control and got this message

there are no active mixer devices available. to install mixers go to control panel click printer and other hardware and then click add hardware

tried going there but do not understand any of it,.

How do I know which sound system I had or maybe it is called drivers.

also no success going to control panel and sound. when I tired to see if mute was on it said no audio device on the properties volume tab

My light on the speaker is on. rebooting it does not help

II do not think I have the initial cd anymore.

what should I do to get the sound back (I need it in very easy to understand terms being an older newbie..thank)

  1. Download the drivers for your sound card and reinstall them, just goto the manafactururs website and goto support, or pay £9999999 in a shop for some nerdy douche to do it for you :D

  2. Try this:

Go to Start > Run. Type"services.msc" in the Run window and press Enter. The Services window will open, under the Name column look for Windows Audio and select it. If the Status for it is blank, then Right-Click on it and select Start. Le me know if this works.

  3. I'm an older newbie myself. Try restoring your computer back to an earlier date before you were having problems. Hope this helps.

  4.      Hopefully, you are just experiencing some sort of isolated problem dealing with the sound software. If you recently installed a new operating system, or even updated the current one with a service pack, you may be seeing a compatibility issue. I would start by finding out the manufacturer of your sound card, either by using the system information panel or by physically checking the card. Once you have done this, locate the website of that manufacturer online. Find the set of drivers that match your model of sound card and download the appropriate package for your operating system. Install the drivers, reboot, and hopefully the problem is gone.

If this doesn't work, you may be having a more serious problem. If this is an older computer, or you are running an older OS, you may be experiencing the chronic critical registry errors that older versions of Windows get. You can always take it down to Best Buy and have them fix it, but they are extortionately expensive and don't guarantee their work. If you are having hardware-related problem like an aging soundcard, fixing it this way won't help for long - if at all.
