How would i support children's play and communication development in bilingual and multilingual settings , where a child will learn through and additional language

  1. There's a lot of these question already been answered so try looking up on the resolved question pages. I know I put down a lot of ideas on them!

    Ideas:

    -Use makaton signs and gestures so children do not simply rely on verbal speech. This also reinforces the language.

    -Images and symbols-make visual boards showing information such as a timetable for the day, symbols showing toilet, sink etcs so children can point to what they need. Gives them independence.

    -get support from parents-they can write a few common words so you can recognise phrases child may say such as home, toilet, drink.

    -Get support from local advisors (most settings have them) who can support with training, interpretors, language books etc.

    -Have labels, books, images etc that represent differnet walks from life and different languages.

    -Patience and reptition-children need to practice their skills and language so singing, stories and lots of play helps them to rehearse these. Play is great because it more relaxed than 'work'.
