  1. The Guthrie Theater in downtown Minn. often has childrens programming. There are two excellent Art Museums in the area the Minneapolis Museum of Art and the Campus Museum at the University of Minnesota. The state Capitol is across the river worth the trip for a quick tour.

  2. Obviously we've got tons of lakes, you can swim or walk around them and whatnot.

Waterpark of America is pretty cool, or there are numerous smaller waterparks that might be better suited for a 3 year old.

The Mall of America, clearly you know about it but it's got an Amusement Park (Nickelodean Universe) inside it, as well as Lego Land, mini golf, and a movie theater.

There's a lot of museums (fun ones!) like the Science Museum, Children's Museum, Mill City Museum, etc. I have seen very small kids enjoying themselves.

And two zoos, the free Como Zoo (small but good for little kids) and the Minnesota Zoo (a bit of a drive but cool)

I definitely recommend just going for a walk around a lake or along the river, there are paved paths and the area is beautiful.

    Welcome to Minnesota!
