  1. The nuclear meltdown at Chernobyl.

  2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uoEgkGNO-...

is the first of 6 videos from Discovery channel.

    (on Chernobyl)

  3. "On 26 April 1986 at 01:23:44 a.m. (UTC+3) reactor number four at the Chernobyl plant, near Pripyat in the Ukrainian SSR, exploded. Further explosions and the resulting fire sent a plume of highly radioactive fallout into the atmosphere and over an extensive geographical area. Nearly thirty to forty times more fallout was released than had been by the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki."

  4. Why has no one mentioned the retaliatory bombing of Japan?

Seems to me that would be the most famous nuclear disaster of them all and certainly longest lasting as even ppl today are dealing with the long term radiation effects.

  5. Cernobly

  6. Chernobyl, or in english Wormwood.

  7. Chernobyl

    Three Mile Island

  8. Norjin, the bombings were tragic, but don't really fit the question.  He's asking about nuclear energy, which almost always means electricity generation.

So in that context, the only large disaster was Chernobyl.  All the other nuclear accidents were very, very small in scale compared to that one.
