Question:

Please help with MIDI keyboard.

My friend just puchased a Pro Audio m- 88 key MIDI keyboard, and had no idea what she was getting. She basically just wants to play songs on the keyboard, not recording. So, imagine our surprise when we set this huge sucker up and plugged it in, and there's no stupid sound!! So, obviously I now get that it has to be connected to a computer or other MIDI device, but we just want to know if she can purchase some speakers or something that will plug directly into the keyboard, bypassing the computer? We are both technologically challenged and musically illiterate, this was just supposed to be a keyboard for her daughter who is learning piano.

  1. Did she get a manual with it? If not find it on the web. Musicians Friend.com has Keyboard amps, mixers and speaker systems.

Call them and talk to a technician, and they will help find out how much or little you want or need to satisfy.

I would get a Mackie 1202 Mixer, a power amp and 2 speakers, but you can get by with just a keyboard amp/speaker combo.

Pawn shops have some great deals to be had, but you need to know what to look for. Any good music store should be able to help you sort the basics out.
