There is a way to coil the rope so that when you pull the rope knots come out at even intervals all the way to the end of the rope.

I know this can be done because my father showed me, but I was so small at the time, I do not remember the story or how he actually tied the knot. My sister thought the story had something to do with a knot tying contest, earning extra shore leave----something like that. But I do remember being very impressed with this simple trick. HOWEVER----I can knot figure this out. Or perhaps a recommendation of a good knot tying book. I was unsuccessful at the library.

Thanks in advance!

  1. its just an overhand knot make a loop and put through the overhand  knot you can do this dozens of times on one rope

  2. A slip knot, also called a running knot, is a broad classification of knots that basically refers to any knot that can "slip" along the rope, and/or can be untied by simply pulling one of the ends. This particular slip knot is sometimes referred to as a simple noose, and has wide range of applications. If you do a little forensic knot analysis on this knot, you will see that it is very, very similar to the overhand knot.

  3. The only knots I am good at are Pretzel knots.!!   Haha.

No, actually,  I use to so this all the time.........it's just a series of simple slip knots........

the rope LOOKS like it's all knotted and will take forever to untangle, but in reality, if you just tug at both ends........all the knots "magically" disappear.   Very easy to do actually, once you learn a simple slip knot......then do it many times using one piece of rope or string.

    Ahhhhhhh........now a Monkey's paw.......that's a real work of art..........

unfortunately.......my job in the Navy actually involved WORKING all day...........not sitting around  playing with rope like SOME folks,  ........so, alas.......never really got the hang of that.

  4. Hi Bettany!

What you're referring to is called a chain sinnet, chain stitch or monkey braid.

Here's a great website that'll show you how it's done!
