I'm getting braces this Friday. I already have spacers in and my whole mouth hurts so bad I can't eat hard foods. Two questions: 1) Is this normal? 2) After I get braces how long till your mouth stops hurting and goes back to normal? :)

  1. OHHHH yeah. If you think this hurts, the first 2 days will be h**l.

But after those first 2 days, they get better fast. After that you won't even notice it.

But somthing that commonly happens is your mouth gets rubbed by your braces, and causes nasty little sores. Use wax to keep the pain down, and Canker Melts (available at Albertsons) to get it down in a month.

A great product to help the pain is Motrin and Rincinol. Rincinol is a mouthwash and you gargle it. It's non numbing and helps a LOT.

  2. i just got my braces tightened today. im not gonna lie to you, it hurts the first 2 days. i ate cooked rice, soup, and just a lot of soft foods. its perfectly normal because your teeth just need to get adjusted to the braces a little more. pretty soon the pain will go away. but if it hurts so much, i just take a child pain killer. hope i helped!

EDIT: the spacers, when i first got them, hurt a lot! but like i said, you'll get used to it. its all worth it, trust me. about 8 months ago, my teeth were crappy, but now they are so nice even though im not finished lol

  3. it goes back to narmal after about 5 days but still try to stay away frome hard foods it still hurts...belive me

  4. 1) its totally normal 2) they are going to hurt for about a week (stock up on advil!) and after that, you will be able to eat normally like before. every time you get a bigger wire put in, its going to  be like that. But you get used to it. And the rsults;; SO worth it! ;)

  5. aw! my sister just got braces, and last week she had spacers.

    1. yes its normal, ofcourse its going to hurt but its worth it.

    2. It stops hurting after the first three-four days. Your mouth goes back to normal and also they give you this wax thing that you can aply to your braces so it doesnt rub against your mouth as much so you wont cause a rash or something.

  6. 1 yes

2 like 2 weeks at most
