Please help with essay question..?

What are the various explanations or social theories (functionalism, conflict, etc.) for how society functions or exists and why are these explanations so very different?

It's been awhile since I've taken sociology.. but the explanations are so different because people have such different views and ideas and it is all how you look at it in your point of view.

there are so many theories about society and how it functions some support that society is the result of the people's action and they are called atomistic  theories and others that support that the society cannot be analyzed and they are called structural theories!(etc etc etc!)their explanations vary because everyone  based on their point of you and were influenced by the place and period they lived and by other theories!the only thing thats certain is that there is no complete theory about the society itself!

A completely proven theory about society is very rare if at all possible. There will always be variation, some people who are different. Such is the way of any science. The most a scholar can do is find out as much as they can, do there own "experiment" and then come up with a theory putting the results and knowledge together.
