I'm getting a hamsters, but I need a little help on a couple of things. First of all, I'd like to get dwarf hamsters because they can stay in small groups, unlike Syrians, that will fight, but if I can't find any, then I'll get a Syrian. Anyways, I'm a little confused about which cage to get, I found 2 cages that I really like, and they're not too expensive. Here they are:

but, I don't know which of the 2 to pick. And I also like this cage, especially if I'm getting dwarfs, but it's a little more expensive:

Then there's these 2, they're cheaper, but they don't have tubes like the Crittertrail cages, and the second one seems a bit small:

Lastly, I'd like to know what food is best out of these 3, the first one looks good, since the other 2 are mostly seed and grain, and I read too much of these will make the hamster fat...

Thanks for any help :)

  1. CAGE

my brother has the first cage and it is super hard to clean and the wheel starts to smell so I reccomend the 3rd one. just save up your money and buy it...

    FOOD

    as for the food...

    get the first one...

your right the last 2 might make it fat

  2. cage: you should get a habitrail cage because they overcome every cage problem and there cheap to from walmart you can get one for 28 bucks and they are made environment friendly so that you`re hamster can stay health and not get respiratory problems.

Food: you should get hartz food for hamsters they have good nutrition in them and are VERY healthy for you`re hamster i recommend this food cause i use it for my hamster and he is REALLY health.

By the way i use and have these two items so i`m telling u use these two there good and are Healthy OR you can use the third either way those two cages(mines and the third one) are healthy critter trail does not overcome the 3 main problem of hamster cages but habitrail does so i would say you should get the cage i told you here is a link of the cage ((http://www.pets2u.co.uk/images/habitrail... trust me this is a good pet and the food i told you is a excellent and nutritious choice

    `` I hope I helped!

  3. hi=] for the cage the best one ther is the crittertrail3 but the water bottle it cpomes with is c**p. it leaks and hurts the hammys neck to reach, get a regular hang on the side bottle=] also, the wheel it comes with tends to squeek and if you have multiple dwarves a wheel for each one is best=] i recommend silent spinner wheels=]

as for the food, the nutriphase is the best pic=] although i personally use the rat and mouse mix of that brand for my dwarves cuz i bought it on acident once and my babys love it more=P the hamster and gerbil one is also good=]

oh, and remember for bedding NO PINE OR CEDAR!!! they can kill hammys by giving them a respiratory infection. aspen wood chips or a paper product only... personally i use CAREFRESH ULTRA or CAREFRESH COLORS

    best of luck!! =]

EDIT to the 1st answerer, nt all dwarves can squeeze outta bars!!if your getting Campbells Russian Darves, any of thse cages bar spacing is good... if your getting a smaller dwarf (winter white, chimnese, rovoski) then an aqarium should be used=]

  4. if you get a dwarf, a cage should be out of the question.  they can get through the tiniest of places and they dig..which will put bedding everywhere.  the best choice for them is an aquarium with a mesh lid.

crittertrail and any cage plastic is never a good idea, they will both chew out of that in no time.  and unless you hook like 2 together, they are much too small for them.  try thinking like this...would you want to be kept in a cubbard?  My dwarves live in 10 gallon - 20 gallon tanks and they have tons of room to play and have many wonderful toys.

also, not all dwarves will get along famously, same type or not.  So that's not a guarentee and you might need 2 living spaces.

    I would just get one.

if you get a dwarf, make sure you don't give them any sugary things...especially fruits and corn.  they become diabetic very quickly and it shortens their livespans drastically.  I use Nutraphase and I pick out the corn for mine.

  5. i have the crittertrail Z and it is an awesome cage!!!

it looks awesome and my hamsters love it alll thought it took them a month to learn how to go up the tunnels!!!

also ur robo is really too small for the wheel/ball in this cage lol so u might want to put bedding in the wheel becuz i didnt and my hammies started to p**p in there!!!!! also ur hamster will probably use the wheel/call as a den!!! lol

so i would definetley get the crittertrail Z

another tip is the food dish might get chewed up after 2 weeks (mine did) so u might want to get a little ceramic one to replace it and they cant chew ceramic!! ( i really reccomend this)!

for food i have forti diet and it rocks!! my gerbils LOVE this food

u will probably want to take ou tthe sunflower seed and feed it to them as treeats becuz sun flower seeds are fatty and un healthy but good as treats as long as u dont feed to many!!

hope u pick me as a best answer and i hope i helped u!!!

lol have fun with ur almost new robo hamster!!

  6. for the cage i recomend the first wire one. plastic cages are horrible!!! they smell soo bad and they dont have ventilation. aslo the hamsters can chew thrugh the plastic. as for the food i give mine kaytee forti diet. and mine are not fat at all. so good luck with your hammys. oh and by the way you CAN use pine bedding. i have used that my whole life and my rodents have never had a respitory problem. and right now i have 23 rodents so i think i know what im talking bout. so again good luck and email me if u got ne ?s

oh and by the way i would get a new water bottle cause the one that comes w/ the cage i recomened really sucks. by the way the one i picked is http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.js... just for clarification
