Question:

Please help with my Green Cheek Conure?

Every little while he bobs his head up and down aggressively and it scares me. Last time he did that we were in the car and he suddenly shot out (or threw up) this white small thing. He did that two times. Is he doing that because he feels like he's going to throw up again or what please help? I did take him to the vet right after the incident and he checked him thoroughly and told me that he's ok but may have a light URI because he was sneezing a little. Is he ok or do I need to take him back? I really wish I didn't have to?

  1. Birds do that for many reasons, he may just have an itch, scratch his neck. They get the dust from their feathers in their nose and it makes them sneeze, that also is normal. He may have a lot of feathers that need preening, you can help him by pinching them gently to break off the covering on the new feathers. They like that, but be careful not to pull on them or touch the new ones, they are very sensitive.

  2. It sounds like he may be regurgitating his food to share with you (gross I know, but a sign of affection from him!) You can choose to ignore the behavior, and it will eventually subside. But you can be assured that he loves you!! =)  Birds sneeze once in a while, it's completely normal, as long as he doesn't have discharge coming out of his cere (nasal openings).  I used to own a green cheek conure, he was the BEST!!!  They are great pets!!!
