My freezer door must not have been shut properly or something. Loads of thick ice is on the inside now, I can't get the door to shut properly, there's water on the floor and the food is defrosting. I've tried chipping the ice away with a knife but it's really thick and I can't do it ... somebody please tell me what to do! :S

  1. Sorry to say you will have to defrost  wrap food in lots of newspaper or if you have ice bag use that or any of the bags you get in Iceland to bring shopping home  get what you can in fridge  turn freezer off put bowl off boiling water in freezer shut door so steam can melt some of ice or use hair dryer  when you have got rid of ice wipe inside freezer with glycine next time this happens or you want to defrost it will come off in blocks much easier  have you any good neighbours that could put some of your stuff in there freezer for you

  2. You will have to empty the freezer, unplug it and let the ice melt. If you try to chip the ice away, you might puncture one of the freon lines and ruin the freezer.

  3. take all the draws and  everything out and your will have to use a hair dryer or something alot of water but if u wana fix the problem thats gona be the fastest way

:) also make sure the draws are pushed in all the way some times ics gets behind the draws too making it impossible to close

  4. Remove everything from the freezer & switch it off, then use a heavy metal spoon or a meat-tenderizer hammer to tap & break up the icing, use a metal scrapper to lever out the ice into a bucket. Start from the top, running some water down after you've managed to pry out a bit of ice will help loosening it faster. Once you've removed all the ice, remember to dry up the freezer with a towel before putting everything back in.

  5. We've just been through that! I spent yesterday defrosting the freezer. Luckily I had a small chest freezer I could use. But a good total defrost is the only real answer. Chipping it away will only be a temporary answer. If you don't have another freezer you can use, maybe a friendly neighbour might help out with freezer space. Or insulate the contents really well with blankets etc and do the defrost as quick as you can.
