I have Syrian hamster, and she is very friendly. she allows me to pick her up, and pet her, but after a while she starts squirming and i put her back. i want to put her on my bed to play with her (to the perverts out there not in that way) but im afraid she will jump off and get away. How do i make sure she wont get away? and also, what are some other ways to play with her? and if you say obstacle course, please tell me what tp put in it and how to make them. Thanks!

  1. well you could try training her to stay still when she is out of her cage, but then she wont really be nearly as fun to play with. if you don't want to do that, then you cold put up a barrier around the perimeter of your bed so that you can still play with her, but then she wouldn't really want to play, she would just want to get out from around the barrier. really if you want to play with her on the bed, the best thing to do, is when she gets squirmy, pick her up and holder up against your chest for a few seconds. usually after a few seconds hamsters calm down when you do that. it will make her feel safer if you hold her fairly tighter and with her head covered when you hold her to your chest. she will probably squirm even more before she calms down. just make sure you hold her securely while doing this so you don't drop her when she squirms before she calms down. also if you put her down on your bed, she may not have the squirming problem at all. often hamsters squirm more when they are being held than when they are put down. for the firs time that you try to sit her down, enclose the area around her with your arms and if she tries to climb over them, just lift up your arm while just her front paws are on it, and she will be stuck, and therefor turn around and try going another way. mind you she will walk around a bit, but as long as she is not running, you have nothing to worry about. once she is used to your bed, you can play with her as much as you want. you can also play with her by playing what i call hamster peekaboo. hold up the bottom of your shirt to make a sort of pocket, then put her in it, and basically let her find a way to get her head out of your shirt and play peekaboo with her that way. also what she may like is if you sort of place her in one hand and cover her with your other, she will try to push her head out from between your thumb and index finger. when she does, you can play peekaboo that way. also if you want to make an obstacle course, get some cardboard boxes, cut the sides so that the cardboard is in flat pieces. tape and cut the cardboard so that it is sort of a maze type thing. put some food in various places in it. in front of the places you put food, as well as some other places, tape some cardboard just low enough that she can climb over it. behind the cardboard walls, also as well as other places you should put some hamster fluff. you can buy (if you don't already have hamster fluff at almost any pet store, or online at petco.com for $2.99) she will have fun playing with it, and in case she falls over the walls she wont hurt herself. hamster fluff (even colored hamster fluff as long as it is vegetable based color) is totally safe to for hamster and other rodents. you can put almost anything else in there as well, but just make sure it is safe for hamsters by searching it on google or whatever.

WARNING: MAKE SURE YOUR HAMSTER DOES NOT CHEW ON THE TAPE. MOST TAPE IS POISONES TO HAMSTERS IF THEY EAT ANY OF THE PLASTIC OR l**k MORE THAN A LITTLE BIT OF THE ADHESIF ON IT. AS IN ALTERNATIVE, PUT GLUE ON STRIPS OF PAPER AND USE THAT LIKE TAPE. YOU HAVE TO USE NON TOXIC GLUE, BUT THEN IT IS MUCH SAFER IF YOU DONT THINK YOU CAN WATCH CLOSELY ENOUGH TO ENSURE SHE DOESNT EAT THE TAPE.

aside from that warning about tape, i hope i helped and gave you the information that you need.

ps. sorry this is so long, i wanted to cover everything

  2. Well try getting a hamster ball or something. Try some books and make hurdels and ramps or with bigger objects a maze. Hope this helps.

  3. Most hamsters don't like to be held for hours at a time, they will jump right off the edge of a table, bed whatever they are on. You need to get a kiddie pool and sit in it to play with her if you don't want the hamster to jump off the bed and get hurt. You can go here for more tips.

  4. here are a few suggestions

    1. block her off so she can't get to the edge

    2. at target you can buy these things called bed risers you could use those so it becomes to high for her to jump.

and to play with her you can give her an old toilet paper roll to play in and buy her the toys you can find for hamsters at petsmart/petco

    hope this helped!
