Please help!pick up ability help neaded in pokemon diamond

i have a meowth lv 41 but it gets items with hes pick up ability very rare.not that he doesnt get rare items,i said he doesnt pick items often.why does that happen?please help!

its random. you dont want to get his item them the next min you want another 1!
