i know of a website called rent.com, i don't know if you have access to it in canada, but if you go on you can type in your zip code you're looking in, or city/ state and bdrms you want etc, and also price and you'll find a lot of listings....

Since most apartments are owned by small investors rather than large rental companies, you might call a local newspaper and find out whether they have a website, or subscribe to the paper for a short time, and have it mailed to you.
