it is about 2 foot tall and has green leaves looking like a normal daffodil (without the yellow petals), but on the end of the tall shoots, are these green pods about 7cm long by 3cm wide. i pulled one off to look at it, its hard but soft as in there is something inside. i opened it and there are about 6 rows of what i can only call sweetcorn!! any ideas????????

  1. mini corn on the cob!?!?

  2. Could be Arum Italica (or one of its cousins) - look that up online & see if it looks anything like your plant - a piccie would have helped a lot though!

  3. If you left your Iris flower or daffodil flower after it's done blooming, the flower part form a seed pod just like you mentioned.  Could it be one of that??

  4. Do the pods look something like this? http://www.aphotoflora.com/Iris%20pseuda...

If so, it's one of the iris family (this picture is of the seed pod of the Yellow Flag Iris). The height of the plant is about right, and the leaves are larger than daffodil leaves but very much the same shape.

Inside the seed pod, the seeds are green at first, then colour up to look like this http://www.aphotoflora.com/Iris%20pseuda... (some varieties go darker brown or even red when ripe.)

They do look a bit sweetcorn kernel-ish, now you mention it. :-)

    Hope that helps.

  5. Sounds like a bulb, but I haven't looke at those catalogs in a while. A picture would help.

  6. no idea, a picture would be helpful
