I'd like to go to Ausie land from Sep/Oct this year on working holiday visa, I want to work in restaurants, how much will I get in terms of wage? (for instance, in canada it's 8 dollars plus tips which, in my case 10-20 bucks an hour for tips).

Besides Sydney, where else could I find a well-paying job, near beaches?

  1. Australia is surrounded by water, so in every state you will find resturants that are by the beach.

In Queensland - on the Gold Coast, is always looking for people in the tourism / food industry.

I suggest you could start looking there, depending on where you go you can get between $15.00 - $25.00 an hour, however that is without tips.

It isnt that common that we give out tips however, there are some occasions.

  2. tipping is definitely not the norm in australia although some people will tip if they have had exceptional service or you work in a high class establishment. Therefore you shouldn't plan your finances on the expectation of tips. The minimum wage in Aus at the moment is around $13.70/hr.

If you want to work in a resort (lots in queensland - either mainland or on an island) you might get free accomodation and meals thrown in (esp if working on an island). You may also get tips fromthe many  foreign tourists who are used to tipping for everything.

  3. Sept/October our Winter. If you want beaches Queensland Coastal Towns from Gold Coast to Cairns or futher. Its where most Tourists go in Winter. It is warmer there. No tips in Australia(not Many anyhow) average casual wages $15.00 to $20.00 AU.Check with your Consulate if you are allowed to work as I think you will need a working visa.Welcome to Aussie if you come.Have met a few Canadians in my travels and have always found them to be a friendly bunch.

  4. There are beaches around most of Australia's coast line, and nearly all have restaurants or cafes nearby. You don't need to stick to Sydney, you could find work most places around the coast. The pay will be pretty much the same in most places, except for the fancy restaurants that will pay more for experienced service staff.

Just play it by ear when you get here, travel around, there's plenty of work available. You won't get much in the way of tips here though, it's unusual to tip in Australia.

I don't work in the industry but I think the pay rates might be about $15 to $20 or perhaps$25/hr.

  5. clubs and pubs are good idea, average wage would probably be around 15-18 $ per hour but definetely no tips haha. not here. Try melbourne! thats a cool city! or Perth! or gold coast! all really nice

  6. 12-15$ an hour. Petrol is $1.50. Au$ buys 47pense. Cooktown Cairns Gladstone Townsville Sunshine Coast plenty of Resturants Surfers Paradise.
