I retired from building and repairing fireplaces and fireboxes.

I think you want refractory mortar. It does not contain any portland cement, which breaks down over time with heat.

Refractory mortar is now required by many building codes it the USA for building fireplaces and chimneys because of durability issues.

These companies, or others selling similar products can probably give names and addresses of dealers in your area who sell what you need. If none in your area, they will ship directly to you.

You might contact the companies and ask which of their products they would recommend for the resurfacing.

It is important to follow the curing directions for these products.
