Please need help with wireless network adapter for xbox 360???

I have tried everything from plugging in a usb drive into the computer and laptop and trying to make it work on the 360. The xbox dashboard says usb connected but says network not connected. I cant figure it out. PLease help???????? The network adapter is in the back of the 360 and everything. what else is there left to do?
