Please people pls HELP ME ON HOW TO INSTALL JAVA ON UBUNTU?

I am new to Ubuntu, I am in a situation to complete this job as quick as possible, i am searching for it but i havn't got a good answer.

  1. If you are installing  java enterprise edition it requires internet connection to start programing....firstly tell your problem clearly is setup window is appering when click on setup icon.....tell me then I can help you.HAVE A NICE DAY.


  2. Type:

    sudo apt-get install ia32-sun-java6-bin

  3. use GNU Java.

    put ur ubuntu cd and search gij.rpm and gcj.rpm. click on them to install

    gij is gnu interpreter for java and gcj is gnu compiler for java

    if this is your answer and you want to know more abt it

    like how to compile and run using gcj and gij then send me a mail

  4. David D is pretty much correct.  If you use a GUI front-end to update (everything uses apt, so you are using apt anyhow) open your update manager and look for the Java package using that.  Just to make sure that it's the right package for your system, you should probably also open a terminal and type "sudo apt-cache search java"

  5. Synaptic package manager if that doesn't work.
