  1. Well....this depends on your requirements, whether you want an FAA (American) or JAA (European) qualification. From the other answers you will get an idea of the FAA route.

From across the pond, here's the British (JAA) explanation.

Education: No minimum required apart from fluency in english (a head for numbers helps!) Duration of training will be 18 months full time.

There are 21 written exams and 5 flying exams you will have to pass on the way, your training will cover all of this.

Salary range will depend where you head to and the package being offered:

    Corporate: $30-50k

    Airline: $25-60k

Benefits, well after a few years you will be laughing, good pay and normally a steady roster. If you want a family then you will want a roster and therefore need to work for an airline. The advantages of the corporate job are the places you get to visit and the bill is swept up by the boss. Oh, the scenery....wow!

Disadvantages: Every job has its good and bad points. The worst bit is getting started. From then on...the world is your oyster!

  2. Summers off? Short hours? High pay? First year? hahahahahahahahaa. Man I love it here.

  3. Training will take 6 months of dedicated time...

Plenty of tests, flight tests and written tests.. too numerous to list here.

First year pilot anywhere from $30,000 US to $60,000 US.

Benefits: Office with a view, travel.

Downfalls: Long hours, on call, boredom

  4. Education minimum duration is 6 months

Costs start from 30,000$ up to 60,000$

You Must Have  A Class 1 FAA Medical Which is a simple physical examination includes ( ear , eye , heart and pressure examinations )

Dont ask about salaries now ,,, but anyway they are HIGH

Benefits : Achieve your Dream ! - always in air not on ground !

Downfalls : dangerous , No summers off ,, pays are not as high as you think ,, you wont find a job before 1 or 2 years of searching !! believe me
