So I got my semester one results for uni yesterday and to my surprise I got 39/100 for one of my units. So I was upset about it for a while, but then I got to thinking, the exam was only worth 40%, before sitting the exam I was on a score of 39/60. 39. How could I have gotten 0 for the exam? I completed the whole thing, I thought I had at least passed it. I sit my exams externally as I live in the outback, do you think there is a chance that my exam was never marked and included in my score? Is the 39 too much of a coincidence? Can you GET 0 for a completed exam? The other option is that all students in that unit were scaled down very heavily, but even then, to bring my score to 39 is just terrible. What do you think is the most likely scenario? I have emailed my lecturer but I wont expect a reply for a week or so as they arent so great with correspondence.

  1. i'm not sure if it the exact same where you live, but here in maryland, they cannot give a zero for a completed test. and in your case even if your honestly scored a 39 thats still over the 50% mark which means you really shouldn't have received a zero, it may have been an error but if your professor doesnt get back to you i'd go have a talk with the person above him or her.

  2. my dad is a lecturer at the Syd uni, and while it is possible to get 0, generally its not likely for a completed assessment. go ask the lecturer again. it might be a mistake. if the lecturer doesnt reply or gives an unacceptable excuse, go to the head of the dept. with a complaint.

    good luck
