Please provide me the economics of power generation using methane gas produced by animal wastage?

20 years ago I helped a friend build an anaerobic composter to capture the methane from his livestock manure. The project was a success and he tried running his tractor with the gas. The methane does not have nearly the amount of energy per gallon as gasoline and the tractor could not produce enough power to do its job. He was able to use the methane to heat his house and hot water and do all the family's cooking. He also used it to run a generator. It won't do everything but it can be an important piece of the  solution to our energy problems.
