i know i posted this yesterday but i want more people to see it because apbt are amazing dogs!

I know that many people think that "pit bulls"are vicious and i've been doing school papers and articles on this subject for years to try to convince people otherwise. i just want to share a few facts that might change your mind about this breed(actually these breeds)

.the term pit bull is used to classify more than one breed of dog

.the three main breeds are the American Pit Bull Terrier, the American Staffordshire Terrier, and the Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

.many american pit bull terriers make excellent therapy/service dogs

.they only get a bad rep because of neglectful irresponsible owners

many breeds of dogs that are more than one breed mixed can look like any of the three terriers classified as pit bulls.

here is a great dane boxer mix

if something was to happen and this dog were to attack someone you know that the head line of the ad the attack was put it would read "pit bull attack"

here is a terrier rottweiler mix

if this dog attacked someone everybody would be screaming pit bull attack.

.another myth is that pit bulls have lock jaws. well for one there is no such thing as a lock jaw and by saying pit bull does that automatically mean any dog with a stocky build has a lock jaw?

  1. For 13 1/2 yrs i had an APBT named Lucy.

Lucy was a typical dog. she loved her ppl, long walks at the park, a ball thrown around the yard.

then one day a little baby came home, and Lucy was very curious. she peeked in the crib, and stood very still to inspect this new creature.

this new creature was joined by another little screaming creature a couple years later, both boys. Lucy found them very interesting indeed. she mothered them, she followed their every move. she tolerated pulled ears, and squirmy little limbs. she accepted tons of hugs, kisses, and secrets. She proteced them one day from a rattle snake. she suggled in their beds and enjoyed years of playing make-believe.

many yrs went by and all the sudden a new little baby came home again! Lucy was beaming...oh what fun would this be to have a sweet one again. this time it was a little girl. Lucy enjoyed dress up and dolls, and long talks. then a year later another little creature joined her pack this time a boy. Lucy laid very still and watched as tiny little hands reached for her. She kissed his fingers and sniffed his toes. she laid by him and watched him as if he was so very facinating.

at that point i realized what my beloved Lucy was doing. she was soaking up as much love and time as she could. you see, Lucy's health had been failing this last few years, and she wasn't her old self.

you could see in her eyes how she wanted to run and play w/the boys, how she longed to be w/them.

she was still able to lay her head in my 1 yr old (at the time) daughter's lap and listen to all her silly babble. she was still able to lay very still while my littlest one explored her face, her collar her ears.

and at the end she was still able to give them each a single kiss before she passed away and crossed the rainbow bridge. NEVER did that amazing dog ever raise a paw or a tooth to my 4 children.

some ppl would say we were lucky. i'd say well sure we were, lucky to know better than to listen to myth and media hype.

some ppl would say she was just raised right, well sure but we know the real truth.

Lucy might have been an APBT, but in all honesty, she was just a typical dog...looking for a typical family to offer a lifetime of love.

  2. I own a pit and I love her, I had company this weekend and everyone was amazed that my girl was a pit cause they had all these negative stereotypes of the dogs, and my girl just sat around l*****g people and wagging her tail!!

Add** Grammy can you post the link or reference your source that it has been proven that some dogs have locking jaws???

  3. I would Rather Own a dog breed that doesn't require someone to dispel myths, post links, and write papers.

  4. I have a brindle pit bull too! She is my 6 month old kitten's best friend. They sleep and play together everyday. The dog is so gentle with the kitten who weighs 5 lbs and she weighs 80 lbs. She always covers her teeth when playing with dogs, cats and humans.

  5. I agree with you. Think about this, If one dog (lets say a German Shepherd) attacked a person does that mean ALL German Shepherds are mean? No, right?

But people shouldn't say ONLY Pit bulls are vicious. They are some other dogs that are not pit bulls are vicious.

But you have to be careful of ALL dog breeds. Any dog can be mean... And I don't agree with all the tests they make for pit bulls and everything.

But you can't just say oh the pit bulls are mean or nice. They are all different. But you still have to be careful, because pit bulls can lock its jaw, even if they wanted to let go they can't.

But I dont believe pit bulls are born mean.

    Its the owner.

Your dog is your dog. You train them how you want it to be, good or bad. ..

    Hope This Helps.

  6. i am a believer in the idea that dogs such as pit bulls aren't born mean, they are made to be mean by their owners.  i have found many more tempermental so called lap dogs that bite people than pit bull and other so called vicious breeds.  the news never came calling when a shitzu bit my hand for absolutly no reason other than I was enjoying a day in the park...

i also think it is sad that provinces and municipalities are starting to ban the breeding of these dogs.  is it the whole breeds fault when some loony gets a big vicious dog and trains it to mame and kill upon command?

punish the owners, not the breed...

  7. The only people that think Pit Bulls are "Vicious" are people that have either 1) never met one or 2) have been reading too much BSL Propaganda.

Pits are some of the sweetest dogs alive and get a bad rap because of uneducated people that have no clue what they're talking about.

  8. i have a brindle pit-bull.........i love her

she is such an amazing dog and gets along great with our newfoundland bailey...

  9. I know how to get the community to realize they are loyal!!!!

KEEP THEM FROM CHEWING THROUGH WOOD PRIVACY FENCES!!!!

  10. You've probaby opened up a can of worms, so I'll keep my answer, simple, and polite.

I currently own APBTs, and I would NEVER own any other breed.  (Aside from my curiosity in Bull Terriers, I might adopt one of those some day)

  11. I feel that have been bred to fight and it does not matter what mixes they are there is still the potential for the dogs to  revert back to some wild origan. It has been proven that some breeds have a jaw that does not open once it has clamped down on something until that something is torn apart thus a bite to a human is serious. sorry to say but I think it is in the best interest of people that these animals are banned from some towns etc. I had one visit my home and she was the most untrust worthy dog I had ever been around.  after she left here she bit the finger off a person that got to close to the owner. Many many children have been attacked in my area by dogs that they have played with before they are not trust worthy and I hope you never have one turn on you.

  12. I love the look of a american pit bull terrier. They are so cute.

  13. i wanted 1 but my parent said i couldn't so i got a hamster and fish and i hope i can get a bunny

  14. first of all let me tell you that any bull terrier has the ability to lock its jaws, the top jaw overshots the bottom jaw and locks into position the only way you can get the dog to release its clamp like grip is by inserting an angled piece of wood at the gap at the back of the jaws and forcing it forward so the dog will let go.The vast majority of dog fights result in the owners of their dogs doing this to let go of the beaten or dead dog in combat. The apbt was originally breed from a mixture of terriers and a mastiff type for their size they can weigh up to 4o kg in heavyweight fights, hardly the weight of a staffy or English bull terrier is it? as far as the temperament of the dog is concerned that should be the responsibility of the owner would you say that they would make good family pets? can you honestly say you would feel safe in a park with one running around off the lead?i can assure you i would not.
