Does anyone know where I can get recognition for an amazing rocky mt. horse named Hammer? He is gaited, and used to be a western show pony. His new owner bought him a little more than a year ago and changed him to english. She taught him to jump in Sept. 2007 and now he's jumping 2'9''-3'0'' courses clear. They are now working on 3'3'' courses. This horse is truly remarkable.. Hammer is not like other gaited horses; most of whom top out at 2'6'' - if they're lucky. He has a heart of gold and jumps anything put in front of him. He is gracefull and bends beautifully in dressage, and fearlessly jumps anything in the x-country field. I have never seen a horse this devoted or willing to please his owner.. The bond they have is unbelievable. Please, let me know if there's a place I can contact for recognition of this great team. This horse needs to be recognized.

  1. Contact the breed association or

Send in a story to horse illustrated.

    Good luck;;!

  2. Contact the breed association and perhaps they have a publication or will post it on their website.

Many gaited breed associations LOVE to hear about and tell their admirers as well as prospects the versatility of their breeds.  It will make people aware that they can be used in other disciplines other than the "norm".  I think it is a great idea and increases interest in the breed.

You could also contact your local horse and pony publications or I'm sure in some national or even local magazines you can submit your story for consideration.  Or maybe even write a childrens book about Hammer, The Amazing Horse!!

    Good Luck!!

  3. I would contact his breed registry.  If he is gelded, it may not go anywhere.  If not, who knows?

Is there a publication put out by the registry?  Maybe you could write an article to be published in it.  Or, why not write it and send it to multiple horse magazine publishers?

  4. I really dont think there is anything like that. The there is that sort of thing for OTTB but I am pretty sure thats it. Besides if she has a horse that good she doesnt need recognition. She has him.

  5. I would field a letter with his accomplishments, some pictures, the horse and owner's story to horse magazines like Equus, Horse & Rider, etc. A lot of horse magazines like to run stories like that, especially when a particular breed of horse demonstrates extraordinary abilities that are not deemed as typical of the breed. You won't know until you try. I have a gaited horse who is not as talented as this guy, but it never ceases to amaze me how talented gaited horse can be at a variety of disciplines. Truly hope to see this story in more detail in a future issue of a good equine magazine!
