I asked this question a few days ago and no one answered it correctly. It doesnt seem like anyone understood that I need to learn how to use a new technology and then develop my own teaching product with it. I dont need suggestions of products that already exist.

I have a project in my foundations of education class that I really need a little help with. The assignment is:

Learn to use a technology that you have not used before, or learn a new application of a technology you have used before. Use the technology to develop a teaching product that you might be able to use in student teaching or in your first year of teaching.

I have to write a 700 word paper about my experience working with this new technology and developing this tool.

Problem is, I need some ideas of technology I dont already know about and that I can make a teaching tool with. I have no experience here and am so lost!

Please help!

  1. Take a look at Dr. Alice Christie's web page.  One section is devoted to educational technology.  Try to create a WebQuest for one example.  Using heat transfer transparancies to read a story to a large group might be another idea.  Maybe you are trying to make this assignment more difficult than it really is.  Technology is used in the classroom by individuals or groups for instruction or assesment and so on.  You are asked to develop your own project (new to you -- since you are not familiar with this in the classroom, just about anything you decide upon you can justify.)  Include in your writing about what worked and what didn't as you made your product.  Take a look here, then ask for more help if needed.

Btw, you could work in Powerpoint or Frontpage using this template:http://www.alicechristie.org/edtech/wq/k...

  2. Find a school which has ActivBoards and ask if you may visit and learn from a teacher.

  3. I guess it would depend on the grade, but if you haven't used Photoshop before that would be a good one.  There are also great, little known, Microsoft products like OneNote and Publisher (ok that's not little known, but it is great!).

I might also suggest working your way backwards if you're stuck.  Think of the product you want to have at the end by thinking of something you don't currently have as a teaching tool and then see if you can find a technology that would give you that product.

    I hope that helps!

  4. There's a lot of video learning aid, but I haven't seen that much audio learning aid in class (only in small quantities for specific groups) so maybe you can do something with that.

    good luck
