  1. "The Conservative-run council is considering withdrawing from the Wiltshire and Swindon Safety Camera Partnership after a shake-up of speed camera funding rules which mean the Treasury now keeps the proceeds of fines.

The Government then makes road-safety grants to councils."

I dont agree with speed cameras I dont think they save lives, they r just another way of raising tax.

Interesting to see the Treasury keeps the proceeds of the fines! I bet the outgoings (grants) dont match the incomings (fines).  The motorist is a great cash cow for any government.

Mind u what were the local council spending that extra revenue on before the Treasury nabbed it!

  2. Some Government Official will lobby against that and we will still have Speed Cameras and Big Brother watching our every move.

Even Tesco's are in on it, reporting what you buy ......

  3. safety without penalising motorists. I'm all for it as we are the easy targets all the time!!!!!! Speed cameras are money spinners not safety tools!! You never see them where i would consider they should be!!!

  4. I don't think that it will happen....My opinion only

  5. That is probably good for those motoring and only occasionally being found in a violation. It good also that the system is being disrupted as this system is easily corrupt. However there will be those that s***w it up for everyone and soon it will be back in place and much worse.

  6. I don't believe ti will ever happen.

"Speed cameras could be scrapped..."  but that doesn't necessarily mean they will.

"Swindon Borough Council is reviewing its involvement with the local safety camera partnership scheme..."   but that does not mean they will scrap s/cameras which are the best money making scheme ever devised.

Here in my area we have many radar devices that flash a sign when drivers are above the speed limit. If they are, the sign flashes "SLOW  DOWN".  Everyone who is inadvertently above the speed limit obliges and slows down so there is really no justification to charge £60 for breaking the speed limit by 3 or 4 miles.  So I believe, like many, that speed cameras have ONE purpose -- to make money.

So I will believe they will decide against s/ca,eras when it actually happens.

  7. I've read it and my conclusion is that i couldnt give a toss.

  8. they will soon reinstall them or at least make them active again, they are 2 much of a money machine.they will still be watching through them anyway.it might make it easier to pick and choose,i dont think they should put a price on safety, and death on the roads.
