there was this stray cat that stayed in the tree bush thing next door and she had three kittens. I fed all of them every day. two of those kittens just disappeared one day and the one of them stayed with the mom. I'm pretty sure the mama cat got pregnant again because she was in heat for about a day and then just stopped. i just recently went on vacation for about a week but my friend came by and fed my cat and the stray cats but she said she only saw them one of those days. when i came back the mama cat was gone but she left her kitten. i was wondering if anyone knew why they all left and if the mama cat is coming back. her kitten is kind of lost without her and isn't coming out to eat without her there. did the cat leave because she was pregnant? please please please help because I'm trying to take care of the kitten and i want to make sure the cat is alright

  1. is kitten eating solid food? if it is, mom left because it was time. just keep feeding it. and find it a home.

put the food closer to it, it is scared.

if it is not eating solid food, you will have to intervene and bottle feed it, or call a shelter to take it.

mom will separate a litter sometimes, she feels this one is old enough and is caring for the others.

  2. The mother cat may have felt threatened if you were feeding her kittens. She probably moved them. This happens a lot. I suggest leaving the area alone for a few hours or so (you can look out a window or something until you've waited to go back outside.)

If momma kitty hasn't returned for the baby after you've left her alone for a while then call animal control. They can take the kitten to the shelter and get it a home.

  3. Depending how old the kitten is usually the mom by nature doesn't want the kitten around as it gets older - but I could be wrong.  Is there any way you can catch this kitten and get it off the streets?  There must be a no kill shelter to take it in.  As for the mommy cat, you just never know what happens to them..lets just hope she moved on to another neighborhood.
