Hi.

I am so absorbed in Hungarian classical music and folk music. I'm not hungarian though..

Would you please recommend some Hungarian classical music composers?

Except these composers please.

Seress, Hummel, Liszt, Lajos Bardos, Ligeti, Bartok, Kodaly, Goldmark, Zoltan, Dohn Nyi.

Because, I already have listend their music.

In addition, I do love lyrical atmosphere of Hungarian classical and folk music.

Thank you very much. ^^

  1. By 'Zoltan' I presume you mean Zoltán Kodály. You possibly saw his name listed in a Hungarian source as 'Kodály Zoltán'. Hungarians list the family name before the 'given' name so you will also see Bartók listed as 'Bartók Béla' in some sources. This has led to a curious anomaly in the way we refer to one of Kodály's best-known works - 'Háry János'. This is the name of the 'hero' of the opera with surname first (as in Hungarian). The guy's name is actually 'János Háry' but for some reason we always refer to the name in Hungarian form (perhaps because with think it's someone called Harry, which it's not!). I would add the following names to you list for further investigation:

    Ernő Dohnányi

    Peter Eötvös

    Pál Járdányi

    Lászlo Lajtha

    Miklós Rózsa

    Good luck!

  2. hi, I'm Hungarian, and I'm very happy that there is a "stranger" who loves Hungarian music! I think if you would like to captuire the essence of Hungarian music, you should listen as many Bartók and Kodály pieces as you can. They were the first composers who explored the REAL Hungarian folk music (so their music isn't that gipsy-romantic style of Liszt and Brahms). I'm a grat "fan" of them so if I can help you (for example to recommend or to get pieces - here, in Hungary it must be more simple), write to me.

If you want to get to know Hungarian folk music, visit youtube! If you type in "néptánc" (Hungarian word for folk dance), you'll find thousands of videos with dances accompanied by folk music.

    you're very welcome.

  4. Here is a link to various Hungarian music styles...it looks like a good resource for you:

I hope this is of some help.

  5. I doubt you're going to get a lot of composers that aren't the ones you listed. I've only heard of Bartok, Liszt, Kodaly, and Hummel (who wasn't Hungarian).

  6. You've gotta get out more

  7. Brahms wrote a few pieces in the Hungarian style.
