  1. I recommend staying away from the South of France. It's inundated with English speakers and the locals have a distinctive accent. It's better to head up north, preferably to one of the regions which has not been "invaded" yet.

    I studied in Angers, which I really recommend, at this school;

    We could pick our courses and we were mixed with French students studying foreign languages so they were interested in meeting us. Many programs have set courses with no flexibility.

    I also heard there's a good school in Poitiers.

    Both of these are in the Loire Valley (or close to?) but anyway, that's the region with no accent. It's really typically French and feels very authentic.

    Being on the coast would not be an attraction, especially the Atlantic coast which can be rainy and cold. In the off-season, things tend to be very "dead".

    Sign up directly with the school and do not go with a program based in your country. This will save you major money as well and keep you from being hoarded in with a bunch of students doing it together.

    Good luck!

  2. I spent quite a bit of time at the IS Aix-en-Provence. I love it deeply. Very nice international school - your classmates will be from all over.

    Aix is not on the coast, but it's a short bus or train ride from Marseille. The school has excursion activities that will take you all over the south of France on the weekends, for a really nice price, with a great guide (George).

  3.    Institut pour étrangers - Rue Gaston de Saporta - Aix en Provence

       Institut américain -              "            " """"             "   "        "
