I need a pencil sharpener I can carry around while tutoring. Every little one I've ever had has been junk and seems to sharpen but weaken the point, and it just breaks again. Please tell me what sharpeners work well for you. Also, if you have one too big to carry, please tell me about that one too. Thank you.

  1. My fav sharpener is called It's academic and it's red with a large and small sharpener and a small case to catch the shavings.  I  bought it at Wal Greens just on a whim and it's worked out so great for us...we have an expensive one that doesn't work that well at all!

  2. You know whats strange about pencil sharpeners in my life...Well for some strange reason the cheap 99 cent sharpeners always seem to sharpen better than higher quality ones..Sometimes i get lucky and get a good sharpener out of luck and sometimes its no good at all...

  3. A good pencil sharpener is hard to find. Is this for your pencils or your students'? I have taken to only using mechanical pencils--they are inexpensive, always the same size, have a comfortable grip, can store a large amount of graphite, have very precise tips, and always write the same way. You can get a large supply of quality mechanical pencils for much less than buying a cheap pencil sharpener, and if you want just a single one for yourself, you can spend a bit more money and get one that looks fancier, although it will often not actually work any better.

  4. I always had that problem, I just use mechanical pencils now, you don't have to stop to sharpen the pencil, just click the little button.

  5. Try going to Staples and ask about the sharpeners that are used in classrooms.  They should be able to help you with that.
