Well I'm not sure exactly what kind of poems you need for your homework but My two favorite poets of all time are Edgar Allen Poe and Robert Frost. If you like things a little dark and sinister go with poe, if you like things a little brighter (and with a new england point of view) go with Frost. Both are outstanding Poets.

I really depends what tone you are searching for.  There are so many successful poets that set the tone on different topics.  I wish you were a little more particular so I could extend more help to you.

This is a start.  You can look at a variety of poets work.

Go to poets.org or http://famouspoetsandpoems.com/poets.htm... and you'll find a lot of poetry there. I don't know what your assignment is or what era of poetry you need to read. If you need more modern poetry try Langston Hughes, William Carlos Williams, Charles Bukowski, Erica Jong, Adrienne Rich, Sylvia Plath, Alan Ginsberg or E.E. Cummings. If you need older poetry try Walt Whitman, Edgar Allan Poe, Emily Dickinson, or John Keats.
