The author was talking about San Francisco,

and said "Be a part of it. Take a little

home with you, but don't leave your heart

in San Francisco. Squishy little pumpers

keep turning up and nobody knows what to do

with them."

  1. It is a joke based on the song 'I left my heart if San Francisco' by F Sinatra and many others.

If I explain any more then you will never get the joke.

  2. It means enjoy the city while you're there. See the sights, meet the people, make friends, visit a lot of places. Make fond memories and life long friends to remember when you go home, but don't leave wishing you were still there. Or don't fall in love with the city (or a person in the city) and leave with regrets. The last sentence implies that people quite often fall in love with the city and never want to leave...perhaps meaning the population just keeps growing...just my take on it...
