  1. All astrological signs have a planet that is associated with, or "rules" the sign. The energy of the planet and the qualities of the sign are similar.

So Aries is "ruled" by Mars... Cancer by the Moon... Libra by Venus, etc...

BUT a planet can be in any sign as it moves through the sky.

Imagine someone was born Italian. Naturally he would live in Italy... but if he traveled, he would be an Italian in Spain, an Italian in Canada, an Italian in Brazil... and in each country, that Italian would have to modify his behavior to suit the country he was in...

So, your Pluto will express its energies in a Virgo-like way.

It is easier to explain using one of the inner planets. For example, Mars is about how person takes action, how we are aggressive, how we work... so even though Mars "rules" Aries, when Mars is in Taurus, that person takes action in a Taurean way (slow, careful, deliberate, steady) or if Mars is in Scorpio, all action must have an emotional passionate reason to be done.

    I hope that helps.

The "rulership" just indicates which planets are most like which signs.... Mars is "happiest" in Aries... and our Italian is happiest in Italy.

  2. Yes, that's right, they are separate things. Your Sun is in Scorpio, which is ruled by the planet Pluto. However, the planet Pluto in your chart is a generational planet which relates to everyone born around that time. What makes it personal is what house it is in. Just like Libra and Taurus are ruled by Venus, but Sagittarius is in Venus in my birth chart.

  3. Scorpio's ruler is both ruled by Mars and Pluto. Mars was it's original ruler like Aries, until Pluto was discovered later. But Aries is not ruled by Pluto. Mars has it's strongest effect on Scorpio and Aries since they are both rulers of that planet, and Pluto's strongest effect belongs to Scorpio being a ruler. But since everyone's natal charts are unique, not all Scorpios have Scorpio in Mars & Pluto in their chart.
