I thought Special Education was for students with special needs (autism, mental retardation, ADHD, etc) but there are many questions here that have to do with specialized education, types of higher learning. Do you understand the difference? Am I wrong or are these new questioners wrong?

  1. I think the new questioners are wrong as well.  It may have to do with language issues.  Many of those posters seem to be from countries where English is not their first language.

  2. Special education helps many aspects of disabilities. This also includes LEARNING disabilities and this where 'specialized' education comes in.

Schools are suppose to use 'specialized' programs to help children who have learning problems.

It does not matter what disability a child has, if they qualify for special ed services they are to be helped to progress with their education.

BUT, just because a child has a disabiltiy does NOT mean they will qualify or be helped thru special ed. The child has to meet certain criteria in order to qualify for special ed.
