  1. Use natural logs

    ln(6) = x*ln(2)

    Now get out your calculator..

    x = ln(6)/ln(2) = 2.58

  2. log(base2)6=x

    which means that log(base10)6 divided by log(base10)2=x

    -----fyi: log(base10) is commonly referred to as ln. this is what you will refer to it as on your calculator. so basically this is ln6/ln2=x-----

    plug that into a calculator and you get:

    1.79/.693

    which comes out to about:

    2.58

    you can then double check this by plugging 2.58 in for x, which comes to 5.98... so given the rounding we did, it makes sense.

  3. you can do it this easy way.

    Use natural logs

    ln(6) = x*ln(2)

    Now get out your calculator..

    x = ln(6)/ln(2) = 2.58

    this is the easiest way to slove for 6=2^x
