Please solve my gas/mileage equation?

Question

I have a car that is 30 MPG

It holds 11 gallons of gas

(Gas is $4.00 a gallon)

It is 521 miles to my destination and back (so 1042 miles in all)

How much will it cost me to make my trip?

How many times will I have to refuel?

you will use approx 35 gallons of gas,

and it will cost you around 150..

and you need to refuel about 4 times..

1042/30=34.73 gallons*4=$138.93

11*30=330 miles capacity

1042/330=3.16 times

If this is a real life question you need to consider the wisdom of never going below a quarter tank of gas... just in case. So you can go +/- 80 miles if you ever get into trouble.

http://www.mapquest.com/directions your route both ways and check for diversions and traffic. Plan your budget at 20 mpg for safety sake.. partial city driving, stuck in traffic, detours, etc.

LEAVE A FLIGHT PLAN with someone you can be in contact with at all times. Click the 'send - email' button on mapquest and stay in touch with your contact and give them specific instruction for what to do if you deviate from plan or contact.

Most impotantly - do not pick up hitchhikers, no matter what! And tell your parents or another authority what you are planning to do. The fact that you can't do this simple math tells me you are probably not old enough to be traveling this distance. (I sincerely apologize if I am wrong about that)

Please don't take this wrong, but I know there are young people on here, and I would guess there are predators as well.

Either way, file a flight plan and verify with others (not here) the validity of your destination.

and it will cost you $138.93 for the trip
