Orally it is toxic in excess; the LD50 is around 2500 milligram/kg (meaning that a person weighing 75 kg (165 lb) would have to consume about 190 g (6.7 ounces) which equivalent to 38 tea spoons; table salt is about as toxic). Intravenously this is reduced to just over 100 mg/kg but of more concern are its severe effects on cardiac muscles; high doses can cause cardiac arrest and rapid death.

  3. KCl is VERY DANGEROUS! you can give it as a IVP but it has to be diluted in 6-8 ml to prevent burning and stripping of the veins...

  4. All this is true, but you also have to remember that KCl is usually administered as a slow IV drip, over a long period, so it's affects are minimalized. That is, unless you get the death penalty (it's one of the three drugs used in lethal injection)
