Audience analysis Task "Bussiness Writting"?

Use the library and / or the internet to find two examples of writing of the same topic. Examine each piece of writing carefully and decide which of the following audiences it is aimed at:

1. specialist readers

2. Educated non-specialist

3. lay readers (readers with varying levels of education and no specialist knowledge)

To identify which audience the materials are aimed at, you will need to consider the following:

1. the number of abbreviations

2. the amount of jargon

3. the amount of explanation of concepts

4. the formality of the language

5. the format and the layout

Explain what audience you think each is aimed at and why. Include one or two pages of the article or the website where you found it.

I have choice these two articles

and

  1. This assignment is fairly easy, I think. The Mayo Clinic article on handwashing is aimed at lay readers and educated, non-specialist readers. The layout of the article is straight forward, and it is easy to follow the steps outlined in the piece. There are limited abbreviations, little jargon and the concepts involved are explained in a straight forward manner.

The second article, from Infection Control Today is much more technical in it's depth and the formal language used. I noticed the use of abbreviations and acronyms and a fair amount of medicalese. The format and layout is also more involved.

I hope this helps. I am a cook and have taken the health department "Servsafe" courses. I also was a medical technologist until I retired. So, I am familiar with both forms of writing as presented.
