The latest in thing is 12 MP.  So you can get a good digital camera of 7MP in the range of 150-200 USD.   I think a good digital camera should have more than 6 MP picture quality,a good video and audio capture that can be instantly played back on a TV, about 6-8x optical zoom and 12x or more digital zoom. Should be able to accommodate a memory card etc., should be able to give us shake free photos...this is what I want from a good camera.  Please visit a camera shop and find out the various brands/models and also the fast moving models with good battery back up.

It depends on what your definition of cheap is. 100-200$ 250-350$ 500 +$ what? I would definitely choose a Canon or a Sony. Check out consumer reports.

Almost everyone from Wal-Mart and Sears to Best Buy, Frys, Circuit City, and Radio Shack currently sell digital still photo cameras in the 8-10mp range for less than $200.

We bought a 5mp camera last year for almost $200 at Wal-mart, so the 7mp you want is probably around $100-$125.  If you can still find them in a store.
