Question:

Please teach me how to dive into a pool!?

I am inspired based on the olympics to learn how to dive into a swimming pool and look like I know what I'm doing. I'm not talking about diving from 10 meters up, but just from the side of the pool (ok, maybe from the diving board in most back yard swimming pools). Please instruct me in the best way to dive so I can go practice at the local pool knowing the proper ways of not just going in with the belly flop.

  1. Youtube videos are great you know!!

  2. ONLY DIVE IN THE DEEP END!

Step 1:  Stand on pool ladder facing pool.  Put your hands over your head and lean forward.  Do this until you feel comfortable (5-10 times).

Step 2:  Sit on the side of the pool.  Put arms over your head.  Lean forward.   Do this until you feel comfortable (5-10 times).

Step 3:  Kneel at side of pool.  Put arms over your head.  Lean forward.   Do this until you feel comfortable (5-10 times).

Step 5: Stand at side of pool.  Put arms over your head.  Lean down (bend over at the waist).  Dive in.   Do this until you feel comfortable.

As you practive 'the Dive', learn to push yourself off the deck of the pool and straighten out your body.  The force of your dive is what allows you to do the tricks (or even just dives with different depths - deep, shallow, high).  That's why the olympic divers jump so high on the diving board.

NEVER DIVE WHEN YOU DON"T KNOW WHAT IS UNDERWATER!

ALWAYS DIVE WHERE IT IS DEEP(10ft+)!

    Have fun.

  3. unless you are a prodigy, you can count the Olympics out. Diving backwards is fun and easy, but I can't teach you online. sorry. good luck and have fun!!!

  4. Start off by standing at the edge of the pool and put your arms and hands stretched out over your head. Make sure the water is deep enough to dive into. 8 Feet deep is a good minimum.and jump in head first. Make sure you keep your feet together when you enter the water and your legs straight untill you are completely in the water. then bend them to decelerate and turn upwards. once you feel comfortable with this move to a spring board and jump off of that then move up to bouncing once in a light run off the end of the board. Then PRACTICE, Practice, Practice!!!

  5. I can teach you to dive from the blocks (where the races start) or the side of the pool. Here are some very easy things you need to keep in mind:

    1) Keep arms STRAIGHT.

    2) Keep knees STRAIGNT when entering the water.

    3) When about to jump (dive), grab the side of whatever you're standing on with your toes. (Have your toes curl over the side). This will give you more grip and will enable you to jump farther.

    4) Jump as far as you can at about a 40 degree angle.

    5) Make sure that your head is between your arms and is facing down.

    Have a great time!
