Please tell me 3 major advantages and 3 major disadvantages of legalizing drugs.?

Advantages:

*it would be no more drug-dealing related deaths

*drugs would be safer as they would be regulated

*the police would have more officers out there stoping real crimes like rapes and murders

Disadvantages:

*a lot of people who dont use drugs because they are scared of going to jail or scared of the drug dealing world would try them and become addicted

*a lot of people would be unemployed, there's a lot of people making a living out of drugs (police, dealers, the government, chemists, etc.)

*i cant think of a third major disadvantage, sorry

Advantages: Less harmful side effects than alternate drugs, less expensive than alternate drugs, easy to grow/anyone can do it with proper equipment.  Disadvantages: A lot of worthless, lazy potheads hanging around; obesity problem is worsened b/c of munchies (a real side effect), people would do it casually, not just to relieve pain.  This means that people could be high on the job, which is not a good thing- it alters the mind.

2. Put the drug lords out of business

3. Hopefully discourage the distribution of drugs in a way that young people will go to school instead of making a lot of money buy selling drugs

1. More drug-related crimes

2. Possibility of big corporations taking advantage for (non-prescription) drugs

3. More people may be doing drugs

less street crime

lower the jail/prison population: 80 % of those incarcerated are there because of drugs

many youth would not be as involved in crime,( i am a social worker who works with juvenile delinquents most crimes have to do with drug selling)

those who choose to do drugs would be able to live more productive lives... I have seen people who were stable individuals turn to drugs and have their lives fall apart due to getting arrested because of drugs.  a record can often times destroy a life, if drugs were legal, this would not occur, many think that those who do drugs cant function and this is not the case, after doing a drug for so long you learn how to function normally, doing drugs is looked so down upon though that you really cant live a normal life, legalizing drugs would benefit many.

many drugs work as pain killers, those with deadly illness could feel less pain... heroin is one of the best pain killers, if someone is dying what does it matter if he or she gets addicted to heroin wouldnt it be better to not feel pain?

alcohol was once legal not everyone is an alcoholic, so it is not necessarily true that more people would do drugs and get addicted, drugs are not that hard to get , if a person wants to do drugs he or she will.

many would lose jobs eg; drug dealers, fda etc

country would lose money, so much money is made due to drugs, one reason why marijuana may never be legal too much money would be lost

less control for the govt.  thats really only a disadv. for the govt tho.
