  1. Well, the meaning is due to insects.  Yes, real bedbugs. And they are tiny and live in your mattress and/or around your bed area.  They leave behind several bite marks and can be painful, thus creating the phrase "Sleep tight, don't let the bed bugs bite".

  2. Because back then they used to think the earwig bugs would crawl into your ears at night when you were asleep giving you some kind of disease, but earwigs are harmless. It's just a saying.

  3. the "sleep tight" part was from when bed frames had rope laced in the middle to hold the straw mattress up off the floor. you needed to tighten the rope in order to keep the mattress aloft. to wish someone "sleep tight" was to wish that they had a tight, secure bed lacing and posters have answered the other part.

  4. It comes from a time when mattresses used to be filled with straw or made entirely of straw.  They'd often have bedbugs in them.  They still exist and can be found on a mattress if it's not cleaned regularly and have clean sheets put on.   Bedbugs do bite and are quite a nuisance.  So the saying don't let the bedbugs bite was simply a way of telling someone to sleep well.

  5. ACTUALLY SLEEP TIGHT IS PART BUT I 4GOT WHERE BUT THEIRS THESE BUGS THAT BITE U AT NITE SO DONT LET THE BUGS BITE IS TRUE

  6. When beds were made of straw, bed bugs were rather common. This is just a phrase to have a good night's sleep

  7. Because bed bugs used to be much more common and it was encouraging to think you were sleeping in a clean, bug free bed.

  8. i looked this up before and this site has a big long  thing on it
