I keep telling my daughter's pediatrician that my 10 month old daughter has seasonal allergies and she says no that Infants don't have seasonal allergies in their first year. They have to become sensitized to something to be allergic to it. I feel that she is wrong. My daughter will have clear runny watery nose , red itchy eyes, snezzing spells. Help please tell I am not wrong. Thanks

  1. I'm with you on this one.  My dr told me the same thing about my 5m/o, but I swear she has seasonal allergies.  Yes, the runny nose can be part of teething, but the itchy eyes, sneezing and stuffyness is due to allergies IMO.  I have bad seasonal allergies so I'm sure she does too.  Dr's opinions are important, but sometimes mother's intuition out weighs what the dr says.  We know our kids better than they do.

  2. My daughter is 8 months old and has seasonal allergies.  She's pretty much allergic to fresh cut grass and a few other things (just like me).  Her doctor said that it was allergies, because I thought she was sick at first.

  3. go with your instincts.

just keep her room, cot and any play areas clean and dust free (If there is dust ther may be pollen) (also concider that it may be dust allergy too)

If her eyes are sore wash them gently (the lids, lshes and area around the eye) with cotton wool and cool water.  Will she wear shades?  Most pharmacies sell shades that will fit a little one.

Keep the window in her room closed on an evening and at night.

she is too young for any antihistamines.  google hayfever and dust allergies for further advice on how to prevent the pollen gettin to her.

  4. my doctor said my one month old had allergies, why would being an infant exclude then from the sniffles?

also he did tell me that at that age they can't prescribe allegery

medicine but he did suggest i use benedryl (sp?) for a week

  5. It is true that a person has to be sensitized to something to become allergic.  But, I'm pretty sure that they can become sensitized to something within a few days of being exposed to it.  So, it seems to me that it is VERY possible that your child does have seasonal allergies.

  6. My pediatrician said that anyone can become allergic to anything at any time once it is introduced to the body, and even if your daughter has allergies now...she may outgrow them.  I suggest the baby benedryl for the symptoms and good luck.
