I'm going to try to make the long story short....

My family is not too thrilled with my husband. Because of this 95% of my family have shut me out...except my mom. I have a 6 year old who everyone in my family adores. My mother has not seen me nor my son in a few weeks and wants to see us.

This weekend, my husband's niece is having a baptism. I feel that my husband's family is being fake with me which I can't STAND! I told my mom that she could see my son this weekend and so I don't want to go to the baptism because I miss my mother and I want to spend time with her.

When I told my husband this, he got all upset. I thought he would understand and he totally didn't. I'm always with his family, I'm actually getting pretty tired of seeing them. Especially now that my husband told me that "they're not too thrilled with me either".

I dont know what to do....my husband says "well why can't your mother just come over?" I'm like "well, because you know she doesn't want to see you plus she's going to want to go out with my son and I, not stay locked up in our apartment for like 2 hours then just leave."

My husband says that as his wife I should be with him at the baptism...

I dont know what to do....

  1. The baptism will probably, at most, take a few hours.

Go to the baptism with your husband. Your mother can visit with her grandson at this time and get in some me-and-grandma time. When you get back from the baptism, you and your mother can visit.

Marriage is about compromise and it's about making nice with families. You don't have to love the other family but you do have to be polite and you do have to be supportive of your husband.

Both you and your husband are acting immature. He should not have said "they're not too thrilled with me either" and you shouldn't have said "...because she doesn't want to see you." You're both making the situation more difficult.
