  1. Other than the MOTOR there are a few other major components of a sewing machine. One of the major parts of a sewing machine is the presser foot and needle assembly. Without lowering the presser foot to hold the fabric in place, the fabric will just bunch up under the needle. The "feed dogs" underneath the needle move the fabric along as the needle sews. Another major component is the bobbin and bobbin case. A sewing machine functions by using two pieces of thread, one on top, one on bottom, and interlocks the two pieces together, forming a seam.  Here's a link with more info.
