I have had a black insect on my porch for a few days. It is very similarly shaped/sized to a wasp but it is all black and doesn't really fly the way a wasp does, more like jumping/ fluttering from place to place. I believe I saw an orange marking on its back around the base underneath its wings. Also, when it was snooping around my recycling bin it made pretty noticeable sounds digging through the cans so I am assuming it has a harder shell. I want to know because I try not to kill things that aren't harmful to me but it looked pretty vicious. Please include pics of what you think it might be so I can respond and maybe figure out what this insect is. Thanks!!! :)

  1. I think it is type of burying beetle.  Maybe the one about 3/4 toward the bottom of the page on the link.

I find burying beetles in garbage sometimes, but mostly around dead mice. They'll bury mice so they can lay their eggs in them.

Don't worry though, the only thing I'd worry about with them is touching them then eating.

    Hope I helped.

  2. May be you can find your insect here  http://www.chrysis.net/chrysis/intro/img... or here : http://www.chrysis.net/chrysis/intro/img...  or here http://www.chrysis.net/chrysis/intro/img... : those are all common types of wasps and bees.

If it is one of these or similar to one of these, may be I (or others) can help you more

  3. Since I'm no insect expert, I would recommend that you go into google and type the description of the bug, and see if you can't find it in images. It may take a few pages until you find it, but I'm sure you will! I would also recommend looking up common outdoor insects in your region (as they vary depending on region).

Or, if its an indoor bug, look up common indoor bugs in your region.

I know it might be hard, but it'll be worth it!

Maybe if you could post a picture for us it would be easier? Take a picture of it next time if you see it again and still haven't found out what it is!

I did this when I found what are called silverfish in my room. They're nasstty but at least I know what they are, and how I can exterminate them. Yuck.

    Good luck!
