This was done back in 2002. It's an older work and I've improved a lot with portraits so don't worry. lol :) This is one of my favorites because this is when I first started to do different designs. It was done in charcoal pencils and pastel pencils.

This was done in 2000, in charcoal pencil.

This is from the anime clannad. This drawing is more recent, done in color pencils and pen.

Please tell me what you think. I was just curious about what others thought of some of my older works. Thanks to all who answer! :)

  1.   I really like your portrait drawing as well.  Re: anime.  Yes it is a form of art and takes some talent but shows limited range.  It is like drawing a fave cartoon of the current pop culture.  You can do anime..great!  Your portraits show so much more.  You are very talented and should practice, take classes and grow.  The portrait and that type of serious art will grow to be your foundation.  The other fun stuff can be an aside...You will really be doing yourself a disservice if you do not nurture your talent.    Bravo!

  2. i think that all of the drawings are good! are you a prof? =) keep up the good work!

  3. wow it is really cool that you can pull off the different styles because usually that would mess people up...20/20

  4. very, very good

  5. Hey!Those are pretty good!Nice job!Keep it up!

  6. I like your portrait work.  In the first one, the patterning is impressive, but I would have recommending making the background softer.  It distracts from the subject and the pattern in the clothing and hat.  In the second, the lack of expression on your subjects face is a bit disconcerting.  But that is a GOOD thing.  I am not impressed with the anime drawing.  That is simple copying--line drawing.  ANYONE can draw anime.  Very few people can do an interesting portrait. I hope you continue with your portrait work.

  7. Hi.  I disagree about the background in the first portrait.  Does it distract?  Well, maybe, but I think in a good way.  Not everything has to be quickly absorbable; some images are slower, this one.

But for me, the most interesting picture you put up is the charcoal portrait.  That is a compelling drawing.  It's arresting.  It has an quiet but very powerful intensity.  And the way the head is placed on the page really feels right.  The hair too is strangely perfect.  I love how quirky almost random it is.

The anime?  You know, I agree that to really do it well takes great skill.  Is it art or is it illustration?  I have to say that I do not know.  I am an artist, that's my life, that's what I do.  But I don't know the world of anime and I don't know if at its best it is fine art.  I would not rule that out, however.
